Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that former President Donald Trump was “absolutely ridiculous” for wanting to create “circus-like entertainment” at the debate. He said he was acting like an idiot.
Van Hollen said, “Well, we know Donald Trump. You just mentioned drug testing. This is the guy who was the potential birth parent. He’s an important issue to the American people. He wants to create a circus-like, entertainment-like atmosphere.
He continued: “But the choice is going to be very clear. I mean, there’s Joe Biden. He’s a guy who grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He’s fighting for the middle class. He’s fighting for jobs and civility. I believe in the dignity of Donald Trump, an agent of chaos, someone who is running for revenge, and who recently turned to oil company executives and said, “Give me a billion dollars to my campaign. He’s the one who just said, “I’ll give you everything you want.”
Van Hollen added: So some people said they were concerned about the State of the Union. He came out shaking. He gave a very clear message to the American people. It’s not about the age of the candidate. What matters is what the candidates think and what they will do for the American people going forward. Donald Trump is all about revenge. He’s all talking about the past. Joe Biden aims to fight for the American people and set the agenda for the future.
He concluded, “When Donald Trump is being completely sarcastic, it’s understandable for the President of the United States to respond and let it be known that it’s President Trump’s idea.”
