Trump is failing to honor his biggest promises while upholding the least favorable ones.

Trump is failing to honor his biggest promises while upholding the least favorable ones.

When President Trump began his second term, he made numerous commitments to the American populace. However, many of those commitments have since fallen by the wayside.

In his inaugural address, Trump proclaimed, “The immeasurable power of the nation will never be weaponized again to persecute our political enemies.”

Yet, it seems “never again” is occurring now. Trump has tapped into federal agencies like the Department of Justice and the FBI for what many perceive as retribution against those who oppose him.

Trump vowed to halt government censorship and restore free speech in America. Instead, he has launched an offensive against both freedom of speech and the press.

Under the guise of combating “charm,” Trump and his supporters have begun enforcing regulations restricting discussions in schools and universities.

So, what exactly is Trump censoring? Institutions like the National Parks and the Smithsonian are facing limitations on how they can discuss the role of slavery in American history. Additionally, he has initiated legal actions against media outlets for reporting that he finds unfavorable.

There is a growing sentiment that the MAGA movement represents a challenge to freedom of speech, especially in light of recent events surrounding the murder of his ally, Charlie Kirk. Just last week, Trump’s FCC commissioner aimed threats at ABC over comments made by Jimmy Kimmel concerning the media’s right to discuss such issues.

Trump has expressed that ABC “is not allowed” to criticize him. His rhetoric and actions suggest an increasingly authoritarian tone, making even some of his supporters uneasy.

Recently, a senior White House official issued threats aimed at philanthropist George Soros and organizations they label as “The Radical Left.”

Sadly, this isn’t the end of it. In January, during another grand speech, Trump made a pledge about unleashing the military to “defeat the American enemy.” He didn’t specify, however, that the “American enemy” he referenced could very well be the American people themselves, especially immigrants.

Trump has increasingly utilized military deployment in ways that raise eyebrows, treating the military as if they were private militias rather than adhering to legal stipulations which limit domestic military presence to extreme situations.

The “crime emergency” he declared in D.C. has not resulted in the promised safety enhancements. Instead, we’ve seen the mobilization of National Guard troops for what some consider absurd tasks.

Moreover, Trump has continuously misrepresented crime rates in D.C., twisting statistics to serve his narrative.

What else did Trump promise during his inauguration? He asserted his intention to quickly lower grocery prices, which, ironically, have soared under his watch due to tariffs on food imports and disruptions in the farming sector.

His vision of a prosperous America seems increasingly distant, and in many ways, he’s threatened the economy he once inherited, as job opportunities have waned.

His fixation on high-volume arrests has created a chaotic situation, especially for workers who may have been legally present in the U.S. This crackdown could potentially scare away future investments in American manufacturing.

Indeed, perhaps the most significant promise made — and the biggest betrayal — was his vow to prioritize America and its citizens above all else.

Trump has allegedly used his positions for personal gain, a practice that raises questions about ethics, all while his budget maneuvers cut healthcare for millions in order to provide tax breaks for the wealthy.

On the public health front, he’s dismantled efforts to tackle climate change and halted important cancer research, indicating a preference for ideology over the well-being of citizens.

Trump has put into action the Project 2025 Agenda, distancing himself from its controversial aspects while eroding expertise that protects citizens from financial exploitation.

Clearly, there are critical actions being taken that undermine the very people he pledged to serve first.

As the saying goes, a promise is only as reliable as the individual who makes it.
