Trump is pushing DeSantis to nominate Lara Trump as Florida’s next senator

President-elect Donald Trump has asked Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint his daughter-in-law Lara Trump to retiring Republican Sen. Marco Rubio's Sunshine State seat. The paper reported.

Rubio is expected to be easily confirmed by Trump's cabinet, having cultivated strong bipartisan relationships while serving as vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

“I have worked closely with Marco Rubio on the Intelligence Committee for more than 10 years, and particularly in the past few years as vice chair. But he is smart, talented, and continues to be a strong voice for America's interests around the world,” Sen. Mark Warner (D-Virginia) said in a statement responding to the nomination.

“Obviously, other teams' nominations will have political differences from my nomination. That being said, my colleague @SenMarcoRubio is a strong choice and his I look forward to voting on confirmation,” Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) also posted on X in November.
