President Donald Trump has signed an executive order designating ANTIFA as a domestic terrorist organization. This directive instructs federal agencies to investigate and dismantle the group’s activities. This decision comes on the heels of the recent assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on September 10th, a move that appears to resonate with leaders in other countries as well.
The order characterizes ANTIFA as an organized effort utilizing illegal methods to instigate violence and terrorism nationwide. This includes riots, attacks on immigrants and customs officials, harassment of politicians, and coordinated disruptions of federal law enforcement. The directive urges agencies to employ all available resources in this initiative.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump referred to ANTIFA as “a sick, dangerous, radical left-wing disaster.” White House officials previously informed CNN that this designation is part of a broader strategy targeting left-wing groups accused of fomenting political violence. Stephen Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff, has echoed a commitment to mobilize the federal government against what he termed the “US organized left-wing domestic terrorist movement.”
Within two weeks, orders related to the investigation of Kirk’s assassination are expected to be issued. Authorities have reported that shell casings linked to the shooting featured anti-fascist slogans. The suspected shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, has confessed, and prosecutors are pursuing seven charges against him, including a death penalty sentence.
On an international scale, the designation is gaining traction with allied governments. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced plans to classify ANTIFA as a terrorist group, citing Trump’s leadership. This follows an incident in Budapest where ANTIFA activists allegedly attacked attendees at a commemorative event. Similarly, the Dutch House has voted favorably on a related motion, while France is moving to ban the Lyon-based La Joune Guard Antifaciste.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has also condemned anti-fascist rhetoric following Kirk’s assassination. She criticized leftist voices attempting to rationalize the violence, declaring that the political climate in Europe, marked by violence, is “unacceptable, dangerous, irresponsible and contrary to the essence of democracy.”
