Trump Jr. calls MSNBC 'clowns' in exchange on convention floor

The president’s son tried to ignore a question from MSNBC reporter Jacob Soboroff. exchange Speaking on the convention floor on Monday, Trump pressed Trump Jr. about whether a second Trump administration would pursue policies similar to those that separated migrant children from their families.

“I know immigration is important to you, Mr. Trump, and I’ve covered the family separation crisis extensively. Will this policy of intentionally separating 5,000 children from their parents continue?” Soboroff asked Trump Jr. on the convention floor on Monday.

“You mean the Obama administration?” Trump Jr. replied.

“You know, they’re not doing that,” Soboroff responded, before asking again if there was another family separation policy.

“MSDNC,” he replied, “And I expect nothing less from you clowns. Not today, not even 48 hours from now. You guys couldn’t wait. I couldn’t wait with your lies and nonsense, so get the hell out of here.”

Former President Trump has repeatedly claimed that family separation policies were implemented during the Obama administration, despite numerous fact-checks. He denied the allegation..

The Trump administration implemented a zero-tolerance policy for those crossing the southern border illegally in 2018, which resulted in hundreds of migrant children being separated from their parents. Former President Trump eventually ended the zero-tolerance policy after facing backlash against the practice.

The Biden campaign has targeted Trump over the policy and warned about what immigration policy would look like in a second Trump administration.
