Donald Trump Jr., the adult son of former President Donald Trump, has offered his opinion on the highly anticipated choice of his father’s running mate in the upcoming election.
in Recent Episodes During a live chat on his podcast “Triggered,” Trump Jr. was asked to weigh in on several potential running mates for vice president, and he chose Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as a possible candidate.
“When we talk about running for vice president, what are you guys thinking right now?” he asked. “As you all know, I’ve supported J.D. Vance.”
Rumored candidates for the role include North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (R) and Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R).
Trump Jr. disparaged former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson for being “too nice to deal with the sociopaths we’re going to be dealing with.”
The former president’s son said Burgum is a “smart guy” but believes his father would be a better fit for the job as energy secretary.
“North Dakota. He gets it,” said Trump Jr. “He’s built a really good business in tech. I think he’s someone who can actually get money done for America instead of us just giving him all our money.”
Trump Jr. also argued that Rubio might not be the best choice for his father.
“I have a good relationship with Marco, but it’s true to a certain extent that there are some people there who are a little more on the side of the establishment,” he said, warning of possible impeachment.
“So that’s what it comes down to, bringing in somebody from outside the establishment to give you some extra protection from the establishment,” Trump Jr. said.
Trump said he has already chosen his running mate and plans to announce her at the Republican National Convention, which begins on July 15.
A person close to the campaign said Trump could make the announcement as early as Wednesday at a rally near Rubio’s home state of Florida.
Trump Jr. said he plans to host a live show at the convention, including as a possible vice presidential nominee.
“Obviously, I don’t have inside information,” he said, “and even if I did, I probably wouldn’t tell you.”
