Donald Trump Jr. said Peter Navarro is “fine” after visiting him at a federal prison in Miami. ABC News reported Monday.
Navarro was found guilty in January of two counts of contempt of Congress and sentenced to four months in prison. The former Trump campaign adviser ignored a subpoena issued by a House committee on January 6th.
Trump Jr. told ABC News it was “important to show our support” for Navarro, acknowledging Navarro’s visit and adding that he believed Navarro was wrongfully convicted. .
Mr. Navarro repeatedly challenged his conviction in court, arguing that his refusal to testify before Congress was protected by executive privilege. The Supreme Court declined to accept his case late last month. He reported to prison in March.
Trump campaign adviser Steve Bannon also ignored a subpoena from the committee and was similarly found guilty of contempt. His conviction was upheld Friday by a federal appeals court.
Mr. Bannon was also sentenced to four months in prison, but he has not yet completed his sentence and is currently appealing the sentence.
