Trump Judge Scott McAfee wins Georgia primary

Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee, the judge in the wide-ranging extortion case against former President Donald Trump, won Tuesday’s primary election.

McAfee, who was favored to win, was challenged in a bipartisan race by civil rights lawyer and radio host Robert Pattillo.

McAfee has been serving as a judge for just over a year since Republican Gov. Brian Kemp appointed him to fill a vacancy. He will complete his four-year term starting in January.

McAfee has become one of Georgia’s most high-profile judges since he was named presiding over the election interference case last year, and with the added benefit of incumbency, strong bipartisan support from heavy hitters and impressive fundraising, he is likely the favorite to win, The Associated Press reported.

Willis defeated challenger Christian Wise Smith and will face Republican attorney Courtney Kramer in November. The Associated Press reported that Willis’ victory in the primary was not all that surprising given his high profile, incumbency advantage and large fundraising efforts.
