Trump Campaigns in Michigan, Targets El-Sayed
President Donald Trump spoke in Michigan on Sunday, emphasizing his mission to prevent Democrat nominee Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, whom he labeled a “jihadist Muslim Brotherhood member,” from entering the United States Senate.
During a nearly two-hour speech at the bustling McMorran Place Sports & Entertainment Center in Port Huron, Trump criticized El-Sayed and lauded Republican nominee Mike Rogers.
“I’m here today in Michigan for a very important reason: to keep a jihadist Muslim Brotherhood member from becoming a United States senator, and that’s the fact. We’re not going to let that happen,” Trump stated firmly.
He further asserted that in just nine days, voters in Michigan would ensure that Abdul Mohammed Sayed does not reach the Capitol, describing him as someone who should never step foot there.
El-Sayed’s past has drawn significant scrutiny, particularly his endorsement of a 2012 letter supporting the Muslim Brotherhood. As previously reported, the letter included backing from 46 leaders of the Egyptian community in the U.S., advocating for a cleanse of the media and police shortly after Egypt’s then-leader, Mohamad Morsi, expanded his powers.
Notably, El-Sayed was one of the signatories on this letter during his medical studies at Columbia University. The letter expressed support for Morsi’s “revolutionary actions” while criticizing those in America and Europe who opposed the new leadership.
In his remarks, Trump contrasted El-Sayed sharply with Rogers, who came close to winning the U.S. Senate race in Michigan in 2024. Trump referred to Rogers as “perfect” and a “fantastic man,” stating, “I call him Apple Pie. He’s like perfect, this guy. He’s like central casting.” The president expressed confidence that Rogers would become one of the great senators in the United States.
