Trump lauds Navarro’s RNC speech after release from prison

In an online post, former President Trump congratulated his former adviser Peter Navarro on his recent release from prison and for speaking at the Republican National Convention (RNC).

“Congratulations to Peter Navarro, a Harvard graduate and accomplished trade expert, for enduring a completely unjust and unnecessary four months in detention. So unfair!” Trump posted Visit his Truth Social site.

“He was released on Wednesday and flew straight to Milwaukee where he spoke about his ordeal at the Republican Convention,” Trump’s post read. “He got a warm welcome and looks better than when Biden nominated him, but Biden looks much worse (interesting right?)!”

Navarro, a former trade adviser to President Trump, spoke at the Republican National Convention shortly after being released from a federal prison in Miami where he was serving a four-month sentence for failing to comply with congressional subpoenas related to the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

He was convicted last year of two counts of contempt of Congress, one for failing to turn over documents related to the investigation and another for omitting to testify before a House committee investigating the attack.

Navarro had been trying to maintain his freedom while appealing his conviction, but his last-ditch efforts were rejected by Chief Justice John Roberts.

President Trump said in May that he would “absolutely” rehire Navarro if he was re-elected this fall. Navarro has said he does not want a pardon from either President Trump or President Biden.
