Trump leads Biden in Georgia, receiving just over 50% support

Former President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden in Georgia with just over 50% approval rating, but Biden won by less than 1 percentage point in 2020.

That’s according to a Fox News survey of Georgia registered voters released Thursday.

Slightly more than half of voters in the Peach State, 51%, said they would support Trump in a rematch, while 43% said they would support Biden. This gives Trump an 8-point lead, which is well beyond the poll’s sampling error.

Eight in 10 Georgians (78%) say they are very or very interested in the race, with a similar breakdown of votes among these subgroups: 52% for Trump and 43% for Trump. It will be Mr. Biden.

Black Conservative Coalition says Republicans and Trump can restore ‘American Dream’ to black community

Trump has strong support among white evangelicals (85%), conservatives (76%), white voters without a college degree (74%), and rural voters (67%). For Biden, that means liberals (87%), black voters (71%), voters with college degrees (52%), and suburban women (52%).

Democrats and Republicans are equally likely to support their respective candidates (91% each), while independents support Trump by 20 percentage points (51% to 31%). Another positive for President Trump is that Republicans (83%) are more interested in the election than Democrats (78%).

Mr. Biden is taking a hit with younger voters, as he holds a 7-point lead over Mr. Trump among voters under 35.

A majority (60%) say Biden was legitimately elected in 2020, but more than 2 in 10 (22%) of that subgroup think they will vote for Trump in 2024. Roughly one-third (32%) believe Biden’s victory is in doubt and overwhelmingly approve. For former presidents (97% are Trump).

“Trump’s strength in these polls is somewhat surprising given Democratic wins in key U.S. Senate races in 2020 and 2022,” said Fox News with Democrat Chris Anderson. said Daron Shaw, a Republican pollster who conducts the poll. “We can (rightly) rant and say, ‘We don’t know what’s going to happen,’ but the reality is that Biden wants to shift focus and valuable resources from Georgia to other potential battleground states such as North Carolina.” Maybe.”

Trump remains in the lead in a potential five-way race, but both the former president and incumbent have lost support to third-party candidates, with Trump’s approval rating at 45%. In contrast, Biden’s approval rating has fallen to 37%. Other candidates received a total of 12% support: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (8%), Cornel West (3%), and Jill Stein (1%).

The study tested an alternative five-way race in which Trump would be replaced by Nikki Haley. In this case, third-party candidates will help Biden and hurt Haley. In Georgia, Biden leads by 6 points with 35% support, followed by Haley with 29%, Kennedy with 18%, West with 3% and Stein with 1%.

Where does this scenario leave Trump supporters? Only 46% say they support Haley, 31% vote third party, 6% don’t vote at all and 13% are undecided was. Haley enjoys more than 50% support among registered Republicans (52%), but falls short of Trump’s 83% approval rating in the five-way race.

Independents are split when it comes to Haley, with 20% backing her, 22% backing Biden and an even larger 30% backing Kennedy. By comparison, Mr. Trump’s approval rating among independent voters in Georgia is 34%, compared to 21% for Mr. Biden and 17% for Mr. Kennedy.

Nationally, the economy is a top issue, and the same is true in Georgia, where 44% feel they are falling behind economically (43% say they are stable and 12% are moving forward). (The answer is yes.)

When asked what issue is most important to them when deciding to vote this November, 62% said the economy was very important, followed by election integrity (53%), health care (51%), and immigration/ Border security (46%). Abortion accounts for 40%, but all other issues are below 30%, including the Israel-Hamas war (28%), climate change (27%), and the Ukraine-Russia war (23%).

Trump is at the top on most issues. Many Georgia voters are more likely to vote on immigration and border security (+21 Trump is better), the economy (+18), Israel/Hamas (+15), and Ukraine/Russia (+11). I trust Trump more than Biden. Voters are divided on health care (Trump +2), election integrity (Trump +1), and abortion (same). The only issue where Biden has an advantage is climate change (Biden +5).

Biden’s former rival says Trump will win if election is held today, accuses Democratic Party NC of suppressing democracy

“The coalition that gave Biden a narrow victory in 2020 will need to regroup, and that may be more difficult this time around,” Anderson said. “On the key issues of the border and the economy, Georgia voters think Trump is far better. To win Georgia again, Biden needs to make gains on these issues. there will be.”

Another topic surrounding presidential candidates is mental acuity, with more voters (65%) saying they are extremely or very concerned about Biden’s mental health than Trump (51%). many.

Biden’s employment ratings are on par with national ratings, but he is sluggish in Georgia, with an approval rating of 41% and a disapproval rating of 58%.

Georgia voters are ready for a lot of change. Nearly 8 in 10 want big changes (50%) or fundamental changes (29%) to the way the country is run, while 2 in 10 want little change (17%) or no change at all. 3% said it was not necessary.

Trump wins, at least among those who want a lot of change, and Biden wins among the rest.
