Former President Trump has a six-point lead over President Biden in North Carolina, according to a new poll.
According to the North Carolina Mason-Dixon Poll, Mr. Trump’s approval rating among voters in the Tar Heel State was 49%, compared to 43% for Mr. Biden. Another 8% were undecided.
The poll comes after Trump won the state in both 2016 and 2020. North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper said Wednesday he thinks Biden can win the state this fall. This was done immediately after saying that.
Cooper: “I believe President Biden can win North Carolina” said on semaphor World Economic Summit. “And the campaign obviously believes that because they’re invested in it. And they’re there.”
No Democratic presidential candidate has won North Carolina since Barack Obama in 2008. President Obama lost the Tar Heel State to Republican Mitt Romney four years later.
The Biden campaign is focusing on North Carolina as a state with a chance to flip in 2024, but acknowledges it will take “a constant effort” to reach the voters it needs by November.
Polls show Trump with a whopping 30-point lead in Western Carolina, but Biden has an 18-point lead in the Triangle around Raleigh and Durham, and a narrow lead in metro Charlotte. .
In North Carolina, Trump leads among men, but Biden leads among women. Mr. Trump won 61% of white voters in the state, while Mr. Biden won 80% of black voters.
Republicans also hold a 49% to 41% advantage among independent voters.
Mr. Trump has a 3-point lead over Mr. Biden in the state, according to an average poll from The Hill/Decision Desk Headquarters.
The new Mason Dixon Polling & Research poll, conducted April 9-13 among 635 registered voters in North Carolina, had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
