A new poll ahead of the 2024 election shows former President Donald Trump leading President Biden in six battleground states and tied with the incumbent president in a seventh.
Trump is leading Biden in the battleground states of Arizona (45% to 44%), Georgia (47% to 44%), Michigan (47% to 45%), Nevada (49% to 40%), North Carolina (48% to 41%) and Pennsylvania (48% to 45%). Cook Political Report Survey It was released on Thursday.
The poll showed that, including third-party candidates, the vote share of the Republican presidential nominee either increased or remained steady in every state except Nevada.
In the five-way race, Trump holds leads in Arizona 41% to 37%, Georgia 42% to 38%, Michigan 43% to 40%, Nevada 43% to 35%, North Carolina 44% to 36% and Pennsylvania 43% to 40%.
Wisconsin voters are evenly split, with Trump and Biden each receiving 45% of the support in a head-to-head contest and 41% of the support for a third-party candidate. The state backed Trump in 2016 and Biden in 2020.
In the seven states combined, Trump’s head-to-head lead over Biden was 47% to 44%, a figure that grew to 43% to 38% when third-party candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West and Jill Stein were added.
The poll also found that a majority of voters are more concerned about Biden’s age than Trump’s criminal case.
Asked whether they were more concerned about Trump’s “temperament and legal issues” or Biden’s “age and ability to do the job,” more than half (53%) said they were more worried about the 81-year-old president’s stage of life and mental acuity than the 77-year-old former president’s four criminal cases and two civil judgments.
Most voters also believe that Trump will probably complete a second term, but that Biden, the oldest president in U.S. history, is unlikely to do so.
66% of respondents are not confident that Biden can complete a second term in the White House, compared with 41% who said the same about Trump.
Among Biden supporters alone, a staggering 41% said the president would not be able to complete a second term, while only 22% of Trump supporters said the same about their preferred candidate.
The poll was conducted by GS Strategy Group (a Republican polling firm) and BSG (a Democratic polling firm) for the nonpartisan Cook Political Report and surveyed 3,969 voters in seven battleground states between May 6 and May 13.
