A poll of national voters released Wednesday showed former President Trump leading Vice President Harris by one point.
of Fox News PollThe virtual survey, conducted Aug. 9-12, showed Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), leading with 50 percent, followed by Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D-McClearwater), with 49 percent.
Trump’s one-point lead remains unchanged from a July 2024 poll conducted before Biden ended his campaign, which showed Trump leading Biden 49 percent to 48 percent in a hypothetical two-way race.
But Harris’ performance would likely surpass Biden’s July showing in a hypothetical matchup against a third-party candidate.
In the latest poll, from August 2024, Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump were tied at 45% each, followed by third-party candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at 6%, and third-party candidates Cornel West, Jill Stein and Chase Oliver each receiving 1%.
The last poll (conducted in July when Biden was still the Democratic front-runner) showed Trump leading Biden by three points, 44 percent to 41 percent, followed by Kennedy on 10 percent, Stein on 3 percent, West on 1 percent and Oliver on less than 1 percent.
The latest poll showed Kennedy’s approval rating at his worst ever, down four points from last month but marking a steady decline since November 2023, when his approval rating was 15 percent.
Voters also believe Harris would do a better job than Trump on climate change (57 percent to 39 percent), abortion (56 percent to 40 percent), health care (54 percent to 44 percent), “national unity” (50 percent to 45 percent) and Supreme Court nominations (50 percent to 47 percent).
However, Trump leads Harris on the issues of border security (58 percent to 39 percent), immigration (56 percent to 42 percent), foreign policy (52 percent to 45 percent), the economy (52 percent to 46 percent), crime (51 percent to 46 percent) and guns (50 percent to 47 percent).
Harris has seen her approval rating soar, boosting her support in polls nationwide and in battleground states.
The Decision Desk HQ/The Hill national polling average has Harris leading Trump 48.1% to 46.5%. In multi-candidate polls, the national polling average has Harris leading Trump 47.4% to 43.3%, with Kennedy at 3.1%.
