CNN's senior political data reporter Harry Enten said Friday on “News Central” that President-elect Donald Trump has a mandate because his victory is the biggest party gain since 1992.
Host Kate Bolduan said, “In his victory speech, President-elect Trump said voters gave him an unprecedented mandate. We decided to look at the numbers.”
“I think Donald Trump’s progress is amazing, Holy Toledo,” Enten said. Trump increased his approval ratings in 49 states and the District of Columbia compared to 2020, and I looked back to see when was the last time a party increased its approval ratings in so many places. I wonder if we have to go back to 1992 when Bill Clinton improved Michael Dukakis' performance. No, but the bottom line is that everywhere you look on the map, Donald Trump has outperformed George W. in 2004, except in Washington state. No wonder he's on track to become the first Republican to win the popular vote since Bush.
He added, “Holy Toledo, and how merciful, these groups could never have imagined he had this much support eight years ago when he first defeated Hillary Clinton.'' It's the type of group you want,” he added.
