Presidents Cup: Trump Celebrates U.S. Victory
After a stunning comeback at the Presidents Cup, President Donald Trump expressed his excitement about the U.S. team’s performance during a recent press conference. He referred to the win at Medinah Country Club in Chicago as “one of the greatest comebacks in the history of golf.”
Trump, who spoke with reporters after arriving on Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, praised the U.S. team’s ability to turn the tide. He noted the impressive deficit they overcame, leading to what he called a “tremendous victory.”
“It was one of the greatest comebacks in the history of golf,” Trump said. “I would say the history of sports, but certainly the history of golf. It was amazing. Our team played unbelievable golf. They went in with a massive deficit and they came out with a tremendous victory. It was just a great comeback—one of the biggest ever.”
During his remarks, the president took a moment to acknowledge Brandt Snedeker, the captain of the U.S. team, whom he referred to as a “great player.” Trump noted Snedeker’s impressive role as a captain as well.
“And I want to congratulate Brandt Snedeker, who is, by the way, a great player, but he turned out to be an unbelievable captain,” Trump remarked.
Praising the International team for their efforts, Trump described their performance as “unbelievable” and highlighted the significance of the win not just for golf, but for the country.
“In terms of sports, in terms of golf and in terms of our country, it was a great win,” he added.
Trump ended his comments by expressing gratitude to the staff at Medinah Country Club, where he assumed the honorary chairman role for the Presidents Cup, a position he first held in 2017.
After the event, Snedeker also acknowledged Trump, mentioning a conversation they had prior to the competition. He shared what Trump told him about bringing energy to the game and credited Trump for the team’s success.
“He told me I was going to bring some energy today for you guys, you guys need it,” Snedeker recounted. “And I told him if we did this, he gets all the credit. Thank you, President Trump.”
