Trump marks Stephen Colbert's exit from CBS in a late-night post

Trump Critiques Colbert’s Departure from CBS

In a recent statement, former President Donald Trump took aim at comedian Stephen Colbert following the latter’s farewell on CBS. His remarks were quite scathing.

Trump remarked, “Colbert is finally done with CBS. It’s astounding he made it this far! No talent, no ratings, no life. He felt like a ghost. Honestly, you could pick anyone off the street, and they’d do a better job than this guy. I’m thrilled he’s finally gone!” The comments were shared on Truth Social early Friday morning.

Colbert wrapped up his eleven-year stint as host of “The Late Show” with a finale that notably sidestepped political topics. Interestingly, he didn’t even mention Trump during the show.

The finale featured a host of celebrity appearances, including Bryan Cranston, Paul Rudd, Tim Meadows, and Paul McCartney, who was ultimately chosen as the final guest. The show looked back at various memorable moments from Colbert’s tenure, touching on images from his interactions with figures like Anthony Fauci and highlighting Trump’s loss in the 2020 election.

Tom Elliott, founder of Gravian, expressed his sentiments, saying, “I’m going to miss Colbert and his ability to connect with what America is feeling.” Conservative commentator Stephen Miller even suggested that Colbert should consider a presidential run.

As news of his departure spread, several Democratic leaders shared their praise for Colbert. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries stated, “We will always support Stephen Colbert.” Additionally, Sen. Amy Klobuchar commended his collaboration with McCartney, noting, “Thank you for a fantastic run!”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reflected on Colbert’s contributions, mentioning an old clip from “The Colbert Report” and expressing pride in working alongside him.

In an interview, CNN’s Brian Stelter emphasized that Colbert was more than just a critic of Trump. “He became a vital voice in the Trump resistance movement, particularly during the former president’s first term. Although politics were central to his show, it was about much more than that, and viewers will undoubtedly miss him,” Stelter commented.
