Trump Celebrates 90th Anniversary of Social Security

On August 14, 2025, President Donald Trump marked the 90th anniversary of Social Security, emphasizing its vital role in aiding millions of Americans. He delivered his remarks from the Oval Office, reflecting on the significance of this key component of the nation’s social welfare system.

During the celebration, Trump discussed recent reforms aimed at enhancing the social safety net, notably mentioning a $6,000 tax credit for seniors introduced under new legislation. He described this as “one big, beautiful bill.”

The White House noted that this new deduction would allow 88% of seniors to benefit without facing taxes on their Social Security payments, fulfilling one of Trump’s notable campaign promises.

“I’ve always made a sacred pledge to protect Social Security for our seniors. Under this administration, we are keeping that promise and fortifying Social Security for generations,” Trump stated. He also addressed fears about the system’s longevity, pointing out that if Democrats were to take control, it could last far longer. “You keep hearing it will vanish in six or seven years, but that’s not accurate.”

He emphasized that nearly 60 million seniors depend on Social Security for their retirement, asserting that they paid into the system and deserve protection from government leaders.

“On this 90th anniversary, I’ll always advocate for Social Security, supporting the workers and citizens who contribute to our great country,” he added.

Trump also praised new initiatives aimed at safeguarding the program, like a reduction in average call wait times for Social Security by 30% from the previous year. He mentioned the removal of about 275,000 individuals without legal status from the beneficiary list and signed a presidential declaration to commemorate the occasion.

“We’ve already removed nearly 275,000 illegal aliens from the Social Security system,” Trump stated, with Social Security Commissioner Frank Vignano present.

The Social Security Administration confirmed that it “no longer maintains records for roughly 275,000 individuals.”

“These are individuals, many of whom have left the country, yet we were still issuing checks,” Trump remarked.

He criticized President Biden for not doing enough to address the issue, stating, “Everyone has been welcomed. We’re engaged in historic deportations to tackle rampant Social Security fraud at an unprecedented level.”
