President Trump expressed that while he sees the possibility of reconciling with tech billionaire Elon Musk after their public disagreement, he doesn’t consider it a priority at the moment.
In a piece for the New York Post titled “Podforce 1,” Trump suggested that if a reconciliation with Musk were to happen, it likely wouldn’t take long. Following a series of dramatic exchanges, particularly as Tesla’s CEO sought to leverage Trump’s influence, their relationship became increasingly strained.
“I think I could work it out, but right now we need to focus on fixing the country,” Trump stated. “My main goal is to elevate this nation like never before. I believe we can achieve that, and I think it will happen smoothly.”
When asked by columnist Miranda Devine if there was a way to forgive Musk, Trump mentioned that he holds no ill feelings, although he was taken aback by Musk’s public criticism of his former advisor regarding significant legislation. “I wasn’t pleased when that happened,” he noted.
Trump also shared with reporters that he is not looking to re-establish ties with the CEO of Tesla, referencing an incident involving a Federal acquisition that Musk appeared to have moved on from.
Devine probed into Musk’s issues and raised concerns about possible drug-related problems during the 2024 campaign trail, referencing a report from the New York Times. Trump responded, “Honestly, I have no idea what his issues are. I haven’t thought much about him recently, but the bill he opposed is solid.”
According to Trump, he believes Musk feels regretful about his criticism of the administration, which aligns with Trump’s key objectives.
Moreover, Trump disclosed that there was a disagreement between Musk and Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent, indicating it was more of a heated exchange rather than an actual altercation. While he hadn’t witnessed any physical confrontations, he noted there was indeed a conflict between the two.
Musk later reflected on their feud, admitting that he might have “gone too far” in his public statements on social media.
