Trump: Mike Rogers 'totally destroyed' Abdul El-Sayed in heated U.S. Senate debate

Michigan Senate Debate Highlights

In a recent Senate debate, President Trump stated that Republican candidate Mike Rogers significantly outperformed his Democratic opponent, Abdul El-Sayed. This debate took place on Thursday night, and tensions ran high as Rogers challenged El-Sayed on various issues, including his policies and professional history. Following the debate, Trump shared his thoughts on Truth Social.

“Mike Rogers, the great American Patriot and Republican Candidate for the U.S. Senate from Michigan, completely obliterated Mohammed El-Sayed in the big debate tonight. If this was a fight, they would have stopped it,” Trump commented.

He went on to describe El-Sayed as a “Jihadist lunatic” who lacks love for the country, saying, “Mohammed’s statements have been loaded up with lies and deceit.” Offering his support, Trump declared, “I won Michigan BIG, and know that Mike Rogers, a total winner, is the man for you!!!”

During a White House event on Friday, Trump explained that he called El-Sayed “Mohammed” because it felt right to him at the moment.

The debate, aired by WOOD-TV 8 and NewsNation, saw discussions spiral so much that even the moderator, Rick Albin, found it challenging to maintain control.

“In 30 years of doing debates, I’ve never seen it continue during the commercial,” Albin admitted.

El-Sayed, a former health director, aimed to present himself as a challenger to Trump, accusing Rogers of entering the race under the president’s direction. However, Rogers quickly took advantage of El-Sayed’s policies, particularly his proposal to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

When asked about border security, Rogers passionately defended law enforcement, linking ineffective policies to public safety, and referencing the tragic murder of Ruby Garcia by an undocumented immigrant. He acknowledged that some police interactions could’ve been improved but maintained that he supported the president’s immigration approach.

“It has been the largest decrease in murders ever recorded. Almost 20%,” Rogers noted, emphasizing how enforcement targeted serious offenders. “If he had not been here, we would still have Ruby alive today.”

“I would apply the same law enforcement standards to the FBI as I do the ICE agents,” he added.

When pressed on deporting violent undocumented criminals, El-Sayed reluctantly agreed but expressed concern over ICE’s current practices, stating, “ICE is about terrorizing our streets.”

Rogers used this moment to highlight El-Sayed’s inconsistencies, inviting viewers to visit a website that tracked his shifting priorities on immigration.

Flustered, El-Sayed retorted, “You made a website, that’s awesome. Good for you.”

Rogers struck hard when challenging El-Sayed’s credentials. While El-Sayed often referenced his background as a doctor, Rogers pointed out that he only holds a doctorate in public health without a medical license to practice.

“And the doctor — well, he’s not really a doctor,” Rogers stated. “Matter of fact, if somebody came into his office and he tried to treat that patient, he’d go to jail.”

The discussion expanded beyond healthcare to personal attacks on their respective wealth and careers. El-Sayed criticized Rogers for his past in public office and personal investments.

“This is a guy who has not been serious about providing people health care his entire career,” El-Sayed accused, adding details about Rogers’ wealth.

In response, Rogers questioned how a candidate with less than four years of experience could afford luxury property overseas, calling El-Sayed a “conman.”

“How does a guy who’s had less than four years of work experience own a luxury property in the United Arab Emirates?” Rogers asked, challenging El-Sayed’s background.

Overall, the debate was fiery, with both candidates making sharp points against each other, leaving the audience engaged in the unfolding drama.
