Trump Mocks Transgender Weightlifters at Republican Meeting
During a recent policy meeting with House Republicans, former President Trump humorously mimicked a transgender weightlifter engaged in conversation with lawmakers.
Trump, who is 79, criticized the participation of transgender women—those who were assigned male at birth but compete against biological women. He expressed frustration with what he sees as unfairness in these competitions, dismissing activities outside of golf as “boring” and “not for me.”
He kicked off his impersonation by pretending to gasp and struggle as a female weightlifter, before triumphantly raising her fists in the air. “I want to be more, but there are people watching,” he said with a smile during his speech, which was captured on video. “I want to be more proactive.”
His comedic routine evolved, incorporating various exaggerated sounds that are hard to put into words.
“He drops things and gets off the stage crying. His mother and father are crying, too,” Trump noted at one point. He shared a scenario where a man approaches, inquiring, “Have you ever had a lift?” followed by a nonchalant “Some.”
At one moment, he dramatically commented, “It’s crazy,” while easily lifting an imaginary weight, illustrating his point about the perceived discrepancies in strength.
Before diving into his impersonation, Trump acknowledged that his wife, Melania, disapproves of his impersonations of transgender athletes, calling them “very unpresidential.” He quipped, “But I said, ‘It sure is.’” Trump added that Melania finds weightlifting to be “terrible.”
Sparing no detail, Trump continued with his imitation, undeterred by his wife’s sentiments. Women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines, who has been vocal against the competition of transgender athletes in women’s sports, later praised Trump for his antics.
“No, I don’t regret my vote. This is perfect,” she remarked on social media, sharing a clip of his impersonation.
This mockery occurs in a larger context of Trump’s critique of Democratic policies concerning transgender issues. He has expressed bewilderment over the party’s stance on allowing transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports, a topic that continues to foster division.
Last year, upon returning to the White House, Trump signed an executive order aimed at preventing biological males from participating in women’s sports, linking it to Title IX, which prohibits gender discrimination in federally funded schools.
After implementing this executive order, Trump issued a warning to schools, stating that allowing men into girls’ sports teams or locker rooms could lead to investigations for Title IX violations, jeopardizing their federal funding.
