Trump More Popular Today than in 2016, 2020

Former President Donald Trump will be more popular in August 2024 than he was in August 2016 and August 2020, CNN analyst Harry Enten revealed Tuesday.

The findings suggest that Trump has a strong chance of pulling off the biggest comeback in modern American politics, despite Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent surge in polls.

Trump’s favorability rating compared to the past two election cycles:

  • August 2024: 44 percent
  • August 2020: 41 percent

  • August 2016: 33 percent

“At the end of the day, Kamal Harris is doing well in the polls, but she still has a long way to go,” Enten said. “Polls can change.”

Enten also noted that enthusiasm among Democrats to vote for Harris is down one percentage point (61%) compared to enthusiasm for voting for Biden among Democratic voters in May (62%).

In contrast, enthusiasm for voting for Trump among Republicans increased 2 percentage points from May (58%) to August (60%).

According to RealClearPolitics and FiveThirtyEight, the survey results appear to confirm that President Trump’s favorability and approval ratings are nearing all-time highs.

Trump’s favorability rating in the RealClearPolitics average is less than a percentage point lower than its peak in April, Breitbart reported last week, while his approval rating in the FiveThirtyEight average is also less than a percentage point lower than its peak in February.

Trump’s popularity has come after numerous federal court battles, a conviction in New York state court and an assassination attempt that has earned him the nickname “Teflon Don.”

Additional polls show Americans are viewing his presidency favorably. The longer it’s been since Trump left office, the more likely Americans are to view his presidency favorably. The New York Times Reported In April, Times and a study from the University of Siena.

According to the poll, the economy – the biggest challenge for 2024 – and especially rising prices under the Biden-Harris administration appears to be the main driver of the positive reflection.

Recent Financial Times Only one in four voters rated the economy under a Biden-Harris administration as “very good” or “good,” according to a poll from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, while 42% said the economy would be “much” or “somewhat” better if Trump wins in November.

Just 33% said the same would be true if Harris were president.
