Trump Names Andrew Giuliani To Head 2026 World Cup Task Force

Trump Appoints Andrew Giuliani to Lead 2026 World Cup Task Force

President Donald Trump has declared that Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, will take the helm of the task force responsible for overseeing the 2026 World Cup.

During a meeting at the White House on Tuesday, Trump was joined by various FIFA and administration officials. They discussed detailed plans for the highly anticipated event.

Scheduled to kick off on June 11, 2026, the World Cup will take place across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

This tournament marks a significant change, expanding from 32 teams to 48, representing the first time in history that the men’s World Cup has embraced such a format.

Trump expressed confidence that there would be no issues with the neighboring hosts, Canada and Mexico, as preparations ramp up for next summer.

He characterized Andrew Giuliani as an avid competitor in sports, even joking about the responsibility of his new role during the task force meeting.

“It’s a big post. You better do well, Andrew,” Trump quipped.

The president further highlighted that Carlos Cordeiro, a senior adviser to FIFA, would also lend his expertise to the task force.

“Together this group will help plan the biggest, safest, and most extraordinary soccer tournament in history,” Trump remarked.

The World Cup is expected to attract millions of fans from across the globe and the country. The U.S. host cities include Los Angeles, Seattle, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, and Miami, with matches also set to be held in Canadian and Mexican cities, such as Toronto, Vancouver, and Mexico City.

Vice President JD Vance and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy encouraged international visitors to come to the U.S. for the tournament while also cautioning against overstaying their visas.
