Trump Needs to ‘Shut Up,’ Stop Acting Like a ‘Petulant Child’

Republican pollster Frank Luntz said Friday on “CNN This Morning” that he would tell former President Donald Trump to “shut up” and stop attacking Vice President Kamala Harris.

Host Casey Hunt said, “I watched Trump’s event yesterday, and it was clear that his campaign was trying to get him to do exactly what you’re talking about. He was standing next to groceries that have clearly gone up in price, but instead he was saying things like, ‘I have the right to attack Kamala Harris.’ In your experience, how do you think voters responded to moments like that from Trump?”

“They expected it, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to evaluate it and vote for it,” Luntz said. “They’ve known Donald Trump since 2015. They don’t know VP Harris as someone who can define them. That’s what Trump is trying to do. The question is, where is the campaign focused on the substantive parts, and where is VP Harris changing your perspective? Trump is focused on the insults.”

She added, “If I were advising him, I would look him straight in the eye and say, ‘You need to shut up. You need to stop acting like a whiny child and start thinking about what the American people want, the way they want to hear.’ Look, if I was yelling every time you called on me, you’re going to stop calling on me and you’re going to stop listening to me. Trump doesn’t get it. People need to tell him the truth, because at this point she’s got momentum before the convention and I think if Donald Trump continues to behave the way he has, Harris could have a five or six point lead at the convention.”
