Amid Democrats' desperate efforts to confirm President Biden's nominees, President-elect Trump on Tuesday asked the Senate to halt the confirmation of judges before they are sworn into office.
“Democrats are trying to fill the court with radical left-wing judges. Republican senators need to show up and hold the line — make sure no more judges are confirmed before Inauguration Day!” Trump said in the post In true social.
Senate Democrats voted late Monday night to confirm Biden's nomination for federal attorney general.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York told his colleagues on the Senate floor Monday to confirm as many judicial nominees as possible before the new year, which would allow the Senate to vote over the weekend and during the Christmas recess. There is a possibility that it will be done.
Republicans sought to drag out the process Monday night by forcing Democrats to take lengthy votes on procedural motions that would move from the executive branch to the legislative chamber and back again.
As of Monday afternoon, the Democratic-controlled Senate had approved 216 of Biden's Article III judicial nominees. During President Trump's four years in office, Republicans approved 234 of his nominees to federal court.
Dozens of Biden nominees are still pending, according to the Associated Press.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) recently urged Schumer: Time magazine editorial “We will use every minute of Congress at the end of the year to get approval from federal judges and key regulators. No one will be removed from office by the next president.”
