President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Republican South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to head the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
President Trump announced his nomination Tuesday, praising Noem's stance on border security. he said:
Christie is very strong on border security. She was the first governor to deploy the National Guard to help fight the Biden border crisis in Texas, deploying eight times in total. She will work closely with “Border Czar” Tom Homan to secure the border and ensure that the American mainland is protected from enemies.
“I have known Christie for years and have worked with her on a variety of projects. She will be a critical part of our mission to make America safe again.” he added.
Noem readily accepted the nomination, which must later be approved by the U.S. Senate.
“I am honored and humbled that President Donald J. Trump has chosen me to serve as Secretary of Homeland Security. I look forward to working with border czar Tom Homan to make America safe again. “Together with Donald Trump, we will secure our borders and restore safety to American society so families can once again have a chance to pursue the American dream.”
Kristi Noem was rumored early Saturday to be nominated by President Trump for a Cabinet post.
“This selection will complement President Trump's picks for White House oversight positions, immigration hawks Stephen Miller and Tom Homan, who are senior civil servants in many government agencies, including the State Department. is expected to enforce his pro-American priorities on the United States,” Breitbart News reported.
“From 2017 to 2019, top members of the Trump administration, some of whom had careers in the establishment in Washington, D.C., quietly stalled immigration reform. Noem has played little role in immigration policy, other than day-to-day concerns about the supply of visa workers.”
