Trump Nominates New CDC Director After Withdrawing Initial Choice

President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Susan Monales (CDC), the current acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is the permanent head of the agency.

“I am proud to announce that Dr. Susan Monales is my candidate as the next director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” Trump wrote on social media. “Dr. Monares brings decades of experience advocating for innovation, transparency and powerful public health systems.”

“She holds her PhD from the University of Wisconsin and postdoc training in microbiology and immunology at Stanford School of Medicine,” the president continued. “Dr. Monares understands the importance of protecting our children, our community and our future.”

“Dr. Monares will work closely with our great Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert Kennedy Jr.,” the president continued. “Together, they will prioritize accountability, high standards and disease prevention to ultimately deal with the chronic disease epidemic and make America healthy again!”

Monares' CDC biopics show that she previously worked at the White House for the Office of Science and Technology Policy and the National Security Council.

“[She led] “Efforts to strengthen the country's biomedical innovation capabilities, including fighting antimicrobial resistance, expanding the use of wearables to promote patient health, ensuring privacy of individual health data, and improving pandemic preparation,” the biographer states.
