President-elect Donald Trump continued his Cabinet reshuffle this week, nominating Congressman Doug Collins (R-Ga.) to be Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The president-elect made the announcement Thursday, saying Doug Collins will be a “great advocate” for America's veterans.
“Doug himself is a veteran, currently serving our country as a chaplain in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, and fought for our country in the Iraq War,” President Trump said. “We must take care of our brave men and women in uniform, and Doug will be a great advocate for active duty military, veterans, and military families to ensure they get the support they need.” I guess.”
Doug Collins emerged as a strong ally of President Donald Trump during his first term, helping him select a Supreme Court justice in the final days of the 2020 election following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
“Liberals take liberalism seriously, so we have to take conservatism seriously,” Collins told Breitbart News at the time. “As conservatives, we think over and over again that if we just sit by and everyone will come to the conclusion, we have to take that fight to the American people, and the American people are I'm going to take your side. I truly believe that.”
Collins said he will not seek re-election to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2021, but promised his retirement from politics would not be “permanent.”
“As the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, I have fought every day to protect the constitutional rights and freedoms we cherish. “I've always believed that we should strive to pass meaningful legislation that impacts lives, and I'm proud to have done just that,” he said.
“It's goodbye for now, but probably not forever,” he added.
