Trump Not Stepping on My Father’s Legacy

Yes, it's dawn again in America, but Americans must “remain vigilant,” Michael Regan, president of the Reagan Legacy Foundation, said during an appearance on the show. Breitbart News DailyPresident-elect Donald Trump said he has no intention of building on his father's legacy. Rather, 40 years from now, America needs a “strong” leader to right the ship, and Trump is that person.

“Several people called about this and claimed it's morning again in America. Have you thought about your message from your father this morning? I'm sure you have. What does that mean? Are you there again?'' host Mike Slater asked former President Ronald Reagan's eldest son.

“Well, it's morning. We have to keep it going. In fact, I said in an op-ed last week that we were mourning, or mourning, America for the Democratic Party, and that's exactly what it is. This is what's happening now,” President Reagan began.

“But again, we can't just sit there. OK, we won and we won't do anything else. We have to continue to be vigilant. We have to take a breath and… I can't say, “Oh, let's just relax now.” This is because the left side, if you notice it, the left side is not relaxed. They're trying to figure out what they can do now to stop it all. Therefore, we must always remain vigilant in everything we do. Yes, it was morning in America, but as Trump said after making my father's words, we must make America great again, make America respected again, and What do you have to do?'' Reagan said, explaining that he and his wife have traveled all over the world and are often asked by people, “What are you doing in America?'' I've been there before.

“We need America. We need America to be strong. When are we going to elect strong leaders again?” he said, relaying these conversations.

“We just did it on Tuesday, but now we have to support him. Forget about the tweets. Forget everything else going on. It's about leadership and really moving forward.” “It's stuff,” he said, explaining that someone asked him, “Don't you think it's gross that he steps on all your father's stuff?”

“I said, 'Wait a minute. My father was 40 years ago,'” he said, noting that 40 years ago, America needed a strong leader to correct course. Now America needs it again.

“It's a different time,” President Reagan said. “Forty years later, we need a strong leader today to right the ship again. No, Trump didn't step on my father. My father had time to repair it. We had to fix it again. And we need another strong leader. And thank you, Donald Trump.

Mr. Regan pointed out that Mr. Trump called him in 2015 and told him he was thinking of running for president and that Mr. Regan intended to destroy the party. And President Reagan said he did just that, adding that President Trump “reinvented it in a new image with a new person.”

listen:

“You know, he brought in new groups from different areas and made them Republicans and made them vote Republican. So sometimes you have to break things to fix it. He Broke it to fix it. [He] “We were able to win in a big way because we were able to fix it in a better way,” he continued. “And, like I said, it was the same thing my father did for 49 states.”
