Former President Trump, appearing on a podcast released on Thursday, acknowledged the possibility of extraterrestrial life in space, but said he wasn’t sure.
Trump Cast In a video called “Impaulsive,” YouTuber Logan Paul spends several minutes discussing the possibility of extraterrestrial life and whether Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs) might actually be aliens.
“Am I a believer? Well, probably not,” Trump said, “but I’ve met people who will seriously tell me they’re seeing some really strange stuff flying around.”
UAP became a hot topic in Congress last year, when a small, bipartisan group of House members questioned the military for potentially hiding evidence of alien activity or ultra-future technology. Paul expressed similar concerns about government transparency, which President Trump downplayed.
Trump said he spent a great deal of time researching the phenomenon during his presidency and that he doesn’t believe government agencies are hiding information from the public.
“They’re very smart and have very strong people. [who] “They’ve said they believe there’s something there, and I can see how it could be,” he said, “and yet I’ve never been convinced. For some reason it doesn’t sit well with me. But a lot of people believe it’s true. A lot of very good, solid people believe it’s true.”
A Department of Defense report released in March said there was “no evidence” that the U.S. government or private companies had reverse-engineered extraterrestrial technology, and that there had been no confirmed sightings of UAPs of alien origin, contradicting claims made by prominent whistleblowers without evidence.
Trump also stressed that while he personally does not believe in aliens, it’s possible that they do exist.
“That’s very believable. It’s very possible that there is something out there,” he said, “and if you look out into the universe, you see all the different planets and you see that we’re one of the relatively small ones. Why wouldn’t that exist on a planet 400 times larger?”
