Trump on McIver charges: 'The days of woke are over'

On Tuesday, President Trump criticized Rep. Ramonica McQuiver (D-N.J.) regarding claims that he assaulted officers during a confrontation outside an immigrant detention facility.

“Honestly, give me a break. Did you see her? She couldn’t handle it,” Trump remarked to reporters during his visit to the Capitol.

“The days of chaos are behind us. This woman—whoever she is—she couldn’t keep things in line,” he continued. “She was pushing federal agents; she had no control. This nonsense is over in this country. We’re restoring law and order.”

Earlier this month, Alina Haba, a lawyer based in New Jersey, reported that law enforcement agencies were targeting McQuiver in connection with an incident at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Detention Center in Newark.

The Justice Department claimed that immigrants “slapped her on the forearm” during a scuffle outside the detention center while officers attempted to arrest the Newark mayor.

The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has labeled the accusations as “dubious and completely unfounded.”

Rep. Ted Lieu (Calif.), who serves as vice-chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, described the allegations as “largely unfounded and driven by political motives.”
