Trump on Thailand-Cambodia Ceasefire: Protects 'Millions' of Lives

In a recent interview, President Donald Trump shared with Breitbart News that he believes the ceasefire he facilitated between Thailand and Cambodia will be a significant step forward, potentially saving countless lives in both nations.

This announcement followed another major development during his visit to Scotland, where he unveiled a substantial trade agreement between the United States and the European Union alongside Ursula von der Leyen from the European Commission.

On Monday morning, Trump spoke with Breitbart at the Hissmajestic Seaside Golf Resort in Turnberry. This was shortly before British Prime Minister Kiel Sturgeon arrived for discussions. Following the meeting, Trump headed to Aberdeen, where he inaugurated a golf course named after his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod.

“It’s a fantastic course,” he remarked about the new Aberdeen location. “We have significant projects happening there. If we don’t move forward, we risk losing our zoning. The deadline is approaching, and my son emphasized the importance of doing a great job. It’s been enjoyable, and discussions with the Prime Minister are promising.”

During his conversation with Breitbart News, Trump expressed pride in securing an open-ended ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. He had utilized the economic leverage of the U.S. to urge both nations into compliance, leading to a prompt resolution of their longstanding conflict.

“It’s fantastic that they’ve brought an end to the Cambodian War,” he noted, reflecting on the historical tensions lasting over 500 years. “We worked on it yesterday, and today it’s done.”

In the interview, Trump recalled learning about the history of hostilities between the two countries, possibly referring to a work by Christian Calzo. He mentioned conversations with both countries’ prime ministers, emphasizing the clarity of his message to expedite peace.

“While Thailand is a major trading partner, Cambodia has its own contributions,” he observed. “I remember describing the prolonged conflicts; it indeed spans centuries. When I mentioned the 500 years, they acknowledged it as significant. But ultimately, we have now settled it, and it’s about time for peace. Millions of lives will be positively affected by this.”

As Trump pointed out, he achieved an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire” in under 24 hours during ongoing talks with both countries.

Just the evening before this achievement, he had successfully negotiated the largest trade deal in history, with European governments coming to terms with the U.S. president. Trump mentioned having a strong rapport with Ursula and outlined the benefits of this significant agreement.

“I’ve been working with Ursula and various countries on this,” he detailed. “We didn’t expect it to materialize initially; the situation seemed grim at first. There are many formidable countries in the EU like Germany and France, and we believe this deal is beneficial for all. NATO also views it favorably, and trade terms seem to have been well-received.”

Further insights from President Trump’s conversation with Breitbart News are yet to come.
