Trump on Updated Superseding Indictment: ‘Should Be Dismissed’

Former President Donald Trump criticized special counsel Jack Smith for filing an additional indictment on the same four charges that Trump was originally charged with trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

in post Trump said on Truth Social that the updated indictment is an attempt to revive a witch hunt against Smith that is “over,” adding that the updated indictment has “every problem with the old indictment” and “should be dismissed.”

Trump's post came after a grand jury in Washington, D.C., handed down an indictment containing four counts of conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction and attempted obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against the rights of others.

“In a desperate attempt to resurrect a 'dead' witch hunt in Washington DC, crazy Jack Smith, the illegally appointed 'special counsel', has filed a ridiculous new indictment against me that has all the problems of the old indictment and should be immediately dismissed,” Trump wrote.

Trump noted that Smith's “Florida forgery case” had been dismissed and that the updated indictment was an “attempt to interfere in an election.”

In July, a Florida judge dismissed a papers lawsuit against Trump, finding that Smith had not been constitutionally or lawfully appointed.

“This is simply an attempt to interfere in our election and distract the American people from the disasters Kamala Harris has brought to our country, including border invasions, immigrant crime, rampant inflation and the threat of World War III,” Trump added.

The four charges are the same as those Smith previously brought against President Trump, though some parts of the indictment were removed and amended following the Supreme Court's decision in July to rule on presidential immunity.

“The indictment, presented to a new grand jury that has never previously heard evidence in this case, reflects the government's effort to respect and implement the Supreme Court's ruling and remand instructions. Trump vs. the United States” Smith Written It's listed in court documents.
