President Trump on Wednesday called for Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser to clear “force for her” “unsightly” homeless camps across the country's capital, including near the enforcement settlement.
“We have informed the mayor of Washington, D.C. that she must clean all the unsightly homeless encampments in the city. Trump wrote about the true society.
“If she can't do that, we'll be forced to do that for her! Washington, DC must be clean and safe!”
“We are once again proud of our great capital,” he continued.
“Thank you to Mayor Bowser for your efforts on behalf of the citizens of our country. Hopefully, you will be successful!”
The harsh message from Trump comes when the president decides to show more federal authorities against Washington and not issue an executive order that has been debated for weeks. The Washington Post reported, Quoting an anonymous senior Trump administration official.
Emails to the White House regarding the report were not immediately returned.
Democrat-controlled cities have worked to reduce the number of people on the streets. To data retrieved by Axios.
Democrat Bouser said last month that the camp was “technically not permitted.”
“It's certainly a city with shelter for people on the streets and we definitely want them inside,” Bowser said. According to WTOP.
“We work with the residents to take them where they want to go inside. That's always been our strategy.”
The mayor's office did not immediately provide comment on Trump's instructions Wednesday evening.
The homeless camp was also targeted during Joe Biden's presidency when National Park Service workers swept the tent city from three blocks from the White House at McPherson Square.
Approximately 50 tents have been destroyed, according to the Associated Press. I'll report it at that time.
