Trump orders FAA to terminate DEI hiring efforts

President Trump on Tuesday issued an executive order directing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to “return to non-discriminatory, meritocratic hiring” and eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

“We order the Secretary of Transportation and the Secretary of Federal Aviation to immediately return to nondiscriminatory, merit-based employment as required by law,” the order reads.

“All so-called DEI initiatives, including any dangerous preferential policies or practices, shall be immediately rescinded, and the hiring, promotion, and other treatment of employees shall be based on individual merit, qualifications, performance, and dedication. ”

The directive follows President Trump's Monday executive order ending DEI initiatives in all federal workplaces.

Republican leaders say DEI hiring policies aimed at considering individuals who have historically faced career barriers due to racism and sexism could hinder riders' “confidence” in their individual abilities. He said that there is a sex.

“Unlawful and discriminatory diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices, including those based on race, gender, disability, or criteria other than airline passenger safety or overall job excellence, ability, or qualifications. “His employment harms all Americans who deserve to fly with confidence,” the order reads.
