Trump’s Warning on France’s Unrest
On Monday, Donald Trump expressed that Paris is rapidly heading towards becoming a “Muslim city,” attributing France’s current turmoil to excessive immigration. He claimed to have advised French President Emmanuel Macron on multiple occasions to seal the country’s borders.
“Paris is going to be a Muslim city very soon, and that wasn’t the deal,” Trump stated during a press interaction, referencing the violent riots, looting, and arson that have plagued France in recent days.
Trump recounted previous warnings he had given to Macron regarding his immigration policies, which he believes paved the way for the ongoing unrest. “Emmanuel, he’s a friend of mine. I told him a long time ago, ‘You’re making a big mistake in France. You’re letting everybody from the world come in,’” he recalled.
He contrasted their approaches, noting, “We closed our borders. He didn’t. And you know what? His borders are a problem.” Trump insisted that Macron should have taken action to close the borders earlier, something he claims to have advised him to do.
Moreover, Trump dismissed suggestions that the ongoing unrest could primarily be linked to educational or economic dissatisfaction, asserting that immigration is the root cause. “What’s happening in France has to do with immigration, not schools, not anything,” he remarked emphatically.
He warned of broader implications for Europe if countries do not impose stricter immigration controls. “If Europe doesn’t close its borders and bring the criminals out, like the people that are protesting, Europe is finished,” Trump stated.
Earlier, he reiterated similar sentiments on Truth Social, stating, “The migrants have taken over France. They must close the borders, fast.” His comments came after intense violence erupted across France, as protests concerning education funding and living costs escalated into widespread riots, resulting in damages, looted businesses, and hundreds of injuries among police personnel.
French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin reported over 2,330 individuals detained during the violent weekend, while the Interior Ministry noted nearly 1,000 injured security officers. The historic town hall in Limoges was notably damaged due to an arson attack.
President Macron condemned the violence, attributing it to “insurrectionist elements from radical far-left groups, joined by numerous criminals,” and differentiated the rioters from those who have legitimate concerns. On Monday, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu directed local authorities to implement curfews in an attempt to manage the situation.
Trump’s comments followed his assertion on Sunday that “France is burning,” where he implicated mass migration as a significant factor in the nation’s crisis, urging French leaders to take decisive action before it’s too late.
Vice President JD Vance also shared his perspective, cautioning that leaders in the West have recklessly introduced migrants “in the name of diversity and compassion” while overlooking issues of assimilation. Vance expressed hope that France would address the chaos swiftly, emphasizing the beauty of the country and its people. He also linked these events to immigration policies in the U.S., urging Americans to be aware of the implications. “This is the future congressional Democrats seek for your country,” he warned.
