President-elect Trump has selected former ambassador and congressman Pete Hoekstra to be the U.S. ambassador to Canada.
“Pete is respected in the great state of Michigan, a state where we won big. He represented Michigan's 2nd District in Congress for nearly 20 years and also served as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. He made significant contributions to our campaign “as chairman of the Michigan Republican Party,'' Trump wrote in a release Wednesday night.
President Trump said Hoekstra would support the president-elect's “America First” agenda.
“In my second term, Pete will help me put America First again,” he wrote. “He has done an excellent job during our first four years as U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands, and I am confident he will continue to represent our country well in this new role.” Thank you, Pete!”

Hoekstra served as U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands during President Trump's first term.
Prior to becoming Ambassador, he served for 18 years in the U.S. House of Representatives representing Michigan's 2nd District, where he served as Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee.

President Trump nominated Hoekstra on Wednesday after he nominated a former acting attorney general. Matthew Whitaker In the new administration, he is scheduled to become the US ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

President Trump described Whitaker, an Iowa native, as “a strong warrior and a loyal patriot who will steadfastly advance and protect America's national interests.”
