Trump Plans to Limit Mail-In Voting with New Executive Order

Trump’s Executive Order Targeting Mail-in Voting

President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order on Tuesday aimed at tightening regulations around mail-in voting in the U.S., as reported by The Daily Caller.

This executive action will instruct the Secretary of Homeland Security, along with the Social Security Administration, to create a comprehensive list of verified U.S. citizens eligible to vote in each state. The order also stipulates that the United States Postal Service (USPS) is to send absentee ballots only to those individuals listed on each state’s authorized vote-by-mail roll. Additionally, the ballots will need to be sent in secure envelopes featuring unique barcodes for tracking purposes.

According to the order, states will receive an updated list of verified voters no later than 60 days before each federal election.

Moreover, the executive order tasks the U.S. attorney general with investigating and prosecuting anyone found to be sending ballots to ineligible voters. If states fail to adhere to the order, they risk losing federal funds.

White House press secretary Abigail Jackson commented, stating, “Election integrity has always been a top priority for President Trump. The American public largely supports his common-sense policies in this area. He is committed to safeguarding the integrity of America’s elections, ensuring that only eligible citizens can vote. We also encourage Congress to swiftly pass the President’s SAVE America Act, which aims to secure elections for the future.”

This move comes as discussions continue in the U.S. Senate regarding the SAVE America Act. This bill mandates that voters provide proof of citizenship and identification, requires states to clean their voter rolls, and restricts mail-in voting to specific approved circumstances.

The bill was presented to the Senate on March 17th. Earlier, Trump expressed support for using a standing filibuster to facilitate the passage of the legislation, emphasizing that the White House is working diligently on it.

Additionally, Trump announced that he would veto any other measures until the SAVE America Act is enacted, declaring, “It must be done immediately. It takes precedence over everything else.”

For Trump and his supporters, ensuring election integrity has become increasingly important. The Republican National Committee (RNC) has been actively developing an election integrity initiative over recent election cycles. In preparation for the 2024 elections, the RNC has initiated over 100 lawsuits related to alleged election fraud across more than 20 states.

Recently, the RNC has also filed several lawsuits connected to mail-in voting regulations. The Supreme Court is currently reviewing arguments in the case of Watson v. Republican National Committee, which centers on whether federal regulations necessitate that mail-in ballots are received by Election Day.
