Trump to Create Olympic Task Force for 2028 Games
President Donald Trump plans to sign an executive order forming the White House Olympic Task Force, aimed at addressing security and logistical matters ahead of the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
This task force will include members from Trump’s Cabinet and various government agencies. According to reports, one of its main goals is to streamline collaboration between federal, state, and local transportation services. The task force also aims to simplify visa processing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt highlighted in a statement that during his first term, Trump played a critical role in securing the US bid to host the 2028 Olympics. She noted that he views overseeing this major global event in his second term as a significant honor.
LA28 Chairman Casey Wasserman stated that the establishment of this task force is a critical step in planning for the event, emphasizing a shared commitment to making the 2028 Games the best ever.
Wasserman is set to join Trump during the signing event at the White House.
In addition to the Olympics, it’s worth mentioning that the US will host the FIFA World Cup in 2026, making this an exciting period for American sports. This will be the first tournament co-hosted by three countries, with the US overseeing a majority of the venues.
The task force’s plans for the Olympics align with security protocols that will be utilized for the World Cup. It’s interesting to think about how lessons learned in one event can be applied to another.
Los Angeles previously hosted the Olympics in 1932 and 1984, adding to its rich sporting history.
The opening ceremony for the LA28 Olympics is scheduled for July 14, 2028, concluding with events on July 30. The Paralympics will follow, kicking off on August 15, 2028.
