WASHINGTON – Next month, President Trump will travel to Ireland to visit the US embassy and participate in the Irish Open at his Doonbeg golf course, according to a White House official who spoke to The Post on Sunday.
He is scheduled to be in Ireland on September 12 and 13, coinciding with the final days of the Open, which is regarded as one of the premier tournaments on the European tour.
While there, the president will also engage with embassy staff and business representatives in Dublin, as mentioned by the official.
His itinerary isn’t fully set yet, so more events might be added.
However, the main focus of his visit will be at the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg, County Clare.
This five-star establishment is located along Ireland’s west coast and occupies more than 400 acres by a 1.5-mile beach. Notably, the golf course was initially designed by the famed golfer Greg Norman.
“It’s one of the best, most beautiful golf courses anywhere in the world,” Trump remarked back in July.
At that time, he hinted at the possibility of attending the tournament. “We’re going to watch Rory and all the golf players. It’ll be something very, very special,” he added.
Rory McIlroy, a professional golfer from Northern Ireland and one of Trump’s favorites, will be defending his title at the Irish Open. McIlroy is the current Masters champion, having won consecutively in 2025 and 2026.
During an April state dinner for King Charles III, McIlroy was one of the guests. Shortly after his second Masters victory, Trump used his speech at the black-tie event to commend McIlroy, highlighting his “unconquerable courage” on the golf course.
“That was unconquerable courage. Very good, Rory,” Trump said before calling on McIlroy to stand up and receive applause from the attendees.
Seated next to his wife Erica, McIlroy stood up and acknowledged the audience’s appreciation.
He is among only four players in Masters history to successfully defend his title at Augusta National, the last being Tiger Woods.
Trump and McIlroy have previously played golf together, with their most recent outing occurring in February 2025.
Trump last visited his Irish golf club while serving as president in June 2019 but has made private trips with his sons Eric and Donald Jr. during the years following his time in the White House.
