Trump pokes fun at his own hair during Michigan rally

Former President Trump paused his speech at a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday to poke fun at his own hair.

“I have to interject, let me just turn the camera off… can you see me on the screen above? It’s awful, that hairline is awful,” Trump joked, looking at the screen displaying his remarks. “It looks OK on the other side, but it’s awful. Sorry. I looked up there and I said, ‘Wow, look at that.’ It’s incredible. It’s like a work of art.”

The comments came at Trump’s first rally since formally accepting the party’s presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. It also marked the former president’s first since surviving an assassination attempt, exactly one week after he nearly died at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Since the experience, Trump’s campaign has promised an increased focus on national unity, and the hair joke marks the latest example of the former president showing a slightly softer side.

Grand Rapids voters saw Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance at a rally for the first time since Trump nominated him as the candidate, and Vance continued to insist that Trump would fight for blue-collar workers in states like Michigan.

President Trump also touched on the subject in a speech Saturday, before returning to the hair topic and touting his proposal to eliminate the tip tax, while also mentioning the different types of workers who receive tips.

“Barbers get tipped. I don’t tip barbers very much because I don’t think they do a very good job,” Trump joked, drawing laughter from the audience.
