Trump Commends Redistricting Efforts in Tennessee and Louisiana
President Trump recently praised the redistricting initiatives taken by Governors Bill Lee of Tennessee and Jeff Landry of Louisiana. This comes after a Supreme Court ruling that struck down Louisiana’s race-based redistricting map. Trump believes these efforts will significantly influence congressional maps nationwide.
During a chat on Truth Social, Trump mentioned a conversation he had with Governor Lee, revealing that Tennessee is working to redraw its congressional map. If they succeed, it’s likely that Republicans could secure all eight congressional seats in the state, potentially gaining one additional seat.
Trump remarked, “I had a very good conversation this morning with Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee. He said he will work hard to correct the unconstitutional flaws in Tennessee’s congressional map.”
He added that political representatives in Tennessee have also committed to this effort. “This would give us one more seat and help save our country from the radical left Democrats and their destructive policies like high taxes, open borders, and crime control,” Trump stated.
That same day, he expressed gratitude to Governor Landry for planning to cancel the upcoming House primary in Louisiana in light of the ruling, as the state works on redistricting efforts.
Trump wrote, “Thank you to Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry for his leadership in the very important Calais case and for moving quickly to correct the unconstitutionality of Louisiana’s congressional map.” He added, “He has shown great vision, strength, and leadership. Thank you, Jeff, and keep up the great work!”
Landry responded with a post on social media, noting, “If there’s one thing Republicans should learn from the president, it’s that playing cards — that’s for fighting!” He continued, “That’s exactly what we’re doing in Louisiana. Thank you for your support, Mr. President!”
This redistricting push is happening just months before the midterm elections, which could lead to very different outcomes for the House majority. If the Democrats gain control, they may initiate impeachment proceedings against the president. On the other hand, if the Republicans maintain their majority and control the Senate, they will have the chance to continue advancing Trump’s legislative agenda.
Matthew Klein from the Cook Political Report shared insights with Politico Playbook, predicting that Republicans might pick up one or two seats as a result of the recent Supreme Court ruling. “The median result is probably 1 vs 2,” he noted, adding that the best-case scenario could yield three or four additional seats.
