Trump praises Republicans after significant bill clears House committee

Trump congratulates Republicans after 'big beautiful bill' passes House panel

Following a long work session on Sunday night, President Trump commended Republicans for overcoming critical obstacles to push forward with what he calls “big beautiful bills,” which encompass many of his desired legislative initiatives.

“Congratulations Republican!!!” the president shared just before 1 a.m. Monday. “Make America great again!!!”

The House Budget Committee, in an unusual late-night session, voted 17-16 to support the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” This initiative aims to prolong Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, bolster funding for immigration enforcement, and cut back on various social program expenditures. Last week, some legislators spent considerable time debating the bill’s intricacies, particularly the ramifications of reduced funding and its effects on long-term debt.

Four Republicans who previously opposed the proposal—Rep. Ralph Norman (SC), Chip Roy (TX), Andrew Clyde (GA), and Josh Brechin (OK)—changed their votes on Sunday night.

After the vote, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) remarked that the House will keep refining the details as the legislation proceeds to the Rules Committee.

“There is so much more to accomplish, and we’ve been recognizing that there are details that still need to be worked out,” he said.
