Former President Trump was asked about Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel in an interview Sunday, saying she expected to see “some changes” in the committee.
“Sunday Morning Futures” anchor Maria Bartiromo asked Trump about Democrats outsmarting Republicans in an interview in Florida, to which Trump replied, “I have a lot of money.” I answered.
“And with the money they’re making, people aren’t paying attention to the RNC. They want change. I — please understand, I have nothing to do with the RNC. I’m not, I’m separate,” Trump said.
When Bartiromo asked President Trump how McDaniel was doing, McDaniel replied: I think she did well at the RNC initially. ”
“At this point, there will probably be some changes,” Trump added.
This is not the first time McDaniel has faced criticism from Republican presidential candidates.
During the third Republican presidential primary debate, then-candidate Vivek Ramaswamy publicly called on McDaniel to resign, pointing to the party’s losses in recent elections. Just a week later, he started a petition to remove her from her post as RNC chair.
“At the end of the day, we’ve become the party of losers. It’s a cancer on the Republican establishment. I’ll tell you the truth. I mean, since Ronna McDaniel became RNC chair in 2017, We lost in 2018, we lost in 2020, we lost in 2022. There is no red wave. It never came. Last night in 2023, we lost,” Ramaswamy said from the debate table. Told. “And I think we have to have accountability within the party.”
“On that note, Rona, if you want to get on stage tonight, I want to look Republican voters in the eyes and say, step down, I’ll give you my time,” Ramaswamy continued.
McDaniel successfully fought off an effort to force him out of the post last year, overcoming challenges from California attorney Harmeet Dhillon and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell. won a fourth term as
But since then, she has once again faced criticism regarding the RNC’s finances and leadership. He came under fire last month for saying on Fox News that the Republican Party should unite around Trump, long before Trump had secured enough delegates to become the nominee.
“I’m looking at the math and the path forward, and Nikki Haley doesn’t see that,” she told Fox News’ Bret Baier and Martha McCallum in late January. “I think she ran a great campaign, but I think the message that’s coming out of her voters is very clear.”
“We need to unite around our eventual nominee, Donald Trump, and we need to make sure we defeat Joe Biden,” McDaniel added.
