Trump Presents Framework for U.S.-U.K. Trade Agreement, Guarantees ‘No Red Tape’

Trump Announces Major Trade Deal with the UK

On Thursday, President Donald Trump revealed that the United States has secured a significant trade agreement with the UK, marking the first such deal since he imposed substantial tariffs in April.

While addressing reporters from the Oval Office, Trump stated that the UK will publicize a variety of American goods, particularly in agriculture. He mentioned that they would expedite the customs process for these products, ensuring faster approval for exports and eliminating any trade deficits.

There are still some final details being worked out, according to Trump. He emphasized that this agreement aims to align economic security between the US and the UK. Trump mentioned having developed a close relationship with British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer, especially after their meeting at the White House on February 27.

During the announcement, Starmer joined via speakerphone, expressing that a major deal had been negotiated after weeks of discussions. He credited US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer for their contributions to the negotiations.

This announcement follows Trump’s implementation of 10% global tariffs earlier in April and his efforts to negotiate new trade arrangements, including a temporary 90-day suspension of certain taxes.

In a post on his platform, Trump described the agreement with the UK as “full and comprehensive,” reinforcing the long-standing relationship between the two countries. He also noted that discussions with other nations are at advanced stages.

This is an evolving story, and further updates will follow.
