Trump ‘probably wins’ if election is about policy, CNN host says

CNN host and political commentator Michael Smerconish said Friday that former President Trump has a big advantage over Vice President Harris on policy.

“So one of the issues in the race is going to be about character. If that’s the case, Trump will lose,” Smerconish said of Trump, adding that in a policy fight with Harris, Trump “will probably win.”

“When you look at the data and ask people whether they rate the performance of the Biden-Harris administration or the performance of the Trump administration, people look back favorably on the Trump era.”

Harris spoke at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night, formally accepting the party’s presidential nomination.

“but [Trump’s] You have to suppress your worst instincts,” Smerconish continued.

“I look at the audience and I think they’re starting to get bored, he’s gone too far off script,” he said. “Let’s not forget, the Republicans had a great convention. I thought their speeches were perfect, and so did the Democrats.”

“So it’s still up in the air,” Smerconish said of the Harris-Trump race. “It’s still within the margin of error.” [race]Who knows where the next turn in this road is?

At the start of the show, Smerconish pressed Harris to take questions from reporters: “She needs to keep up this momentum when she takes questions, because it still annoys me that on August 8th, when asked when she would be available for interviews, she said, ‘I’m not going to give you any interviews.’, “I plan to do it by the end of this month.” By the end of this month?

“I know that this is the next step and it’s caused a lot of frustration to former President Trump. He’s had enough of watching her rise without him being questioned in detail about these issues. He’s going to be furious if she’s not questioned in detail about these issues before the debate. So that’s what I want to see next.”

The Trump and Harris campaigns did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
