Trump promises executive order imposing 25% tariff on all products from Mexico, Canada

President-elect Donald Trump promised Monday that one of his first acts as commander in chief will be to impose a steep 25% tariff on all products imported from Canada and Mexico.

Trump, 78, argued the mandate was necessary to encourage the United States' northern and southern neighbors to crack down on illegal immigration and drug smuggling.

“As we all know, thousands of people are streaming into Mexico and Canada, bringing with them levels of crime and drugs never seen before,” the president-elect wrote on Truth Social. . “Currently, a caravan of thousands of people from Mexico appears unstoppable as they attempt to cross the now open border.”

“On January 20th, as one of the first of many executive orders, I signed all necessary documents to impose a 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada on all products imported into the United States. , we're going to do that stupid open border,” President Trump declared.
