Trump Announces $90 Medicare Premium Rebates for Seniors

On Friday, President Donald Trump revealed plans to distribute $90 rebate checks aimed at helping millions of U.S. seniors with their Medicare premiums, a move seen as part of his strategy to send financial relief to Americans ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “I am pleased to announce that my Administration will, immediately, begin sending ‘Checks’ of nearly $100 to over 20 MILLION wonderful Seniors to help pay for their Medicare Part B premiums, which we have already reduced by significant amounts.”

He mentioned that the funds “will come from the Medicare Improvement Fund, a pointless ‘Slush Fund’ that has only been used by Dumocrats in Congress to pay for the Waste, Fraud, and Abuse for their Special Interest friends, and drive up Healthcare costs.”

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services confirmed Trump’s announcement on Saturday, noting in a fact sheet that 20.8 million Americans qualify for the $90 premium rebates.

The CMS added, “The Administration is making a $90 Premium Rebate available for Part B premiums to certain Medicare beneficiaries because the best way to improve Medicare is to put healthcare dollars back where they belong — in the hands of our Medicare beneficiaries — and make coverage more affordable.”

According to the agency, some beneficiaries will see a direct deposit of the $90 rebate in early October, followed by a communication from Trump, while others will receive a paper check from the Treasury Department later this month.

Both payment options are expected to be delivered before the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

The CMS also noted that Trump is the first president to utilize the Medicare Improvement Fund, which was created in 2008 to facilitate general enhancements to the Medicare program. However, the fact sheet pointed out that Congress has frequently drawn from the fund to offset new expenditures.

Trump clarified in his post that these $90 checks are “separate from the equally substantial Refund ‘Checks’ we are sending to One Million Americans who were overcharged for their Unaffordable Care Act plans by Joe Biden.”

Last month, he mentioned plans to issue $500 rebate checks to approximately 1 million recipients of ACA plans across 30 states, making claims—without supporting evidence—that these individuals were overcharged by the Biden administration. According to Trump, those checks have already been dispatched.

These one-time premium rebates differ from the ACA subsidies, which applied to individuals under 65 and were allowed to lapse last year by the Republican-led Congress.

This recent initiative adds to Trump’s list of promised financial aid to Americans. In his Friday post, he also reiterated a pledge for a $5,000 dividend payment to every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans gain control of both the House and the Senate in November.

There’s been notable skepticism from lawmakers across the political spectrum regarding these “Trump dividend” payments. Critics have pointed out that details regarding the policy necessary to deliver such payments have not been provided, raising questions about how these funds would actually reach Americans. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick remarked last month that these funds would not originate from taxpayer dollars.

In addition, back in February 2025, Trump had promised a 20% return to American citizens from DOGE savings. Later that year, he mentioned a “dividend of at least $2,000 a person” derived from his tariff policies. However, neither of these initiatives resulted in payments to American citizens.
