Trump promises to take action in Chicago if Democrat Gov. Pritzker doesn’t step up: 'We're on our way!'

Trump’s Federal Intervention in D.C. and Crime Rates

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump declared that a police station in Washington, D.C., would come under federal control, announcing plans to deploy the National Guard to restore “law, order, and public safety.”

Democrats and liberal critics were quick to condemn Trump’s move, but their response may have been hasty. Reportedly, violent crime in D.C. has decreased by 45% since his intervention, with carjackings plummeting by 87%.

Trump’s approach is, perhaps, an attempt to address crime issues in other cities across the nation, showcasing how decisive action can lead to quick results.

However, at a press conference last week, Democrat Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker criticized the president’s efforts, calling them “illegal, unconstitutional, and non-American.” He even urged Trump not to come to Chicago, suggesting that the city didn’t want or need federal help.

In response, Trump highlighted just how serious the situation was in Chicago, noting that “six people died and 24 were shot” over a weekend, while Pritzker claimed he didn’t require assistance in curbing crime. “He’s crazy!!! He’s got to straighten it out fast, or we’re coming!” Trump stated.

As the Labor Day weekend began, Chicago faced another wave of gun violence, with reports indicating at least 32 shooting victims by Sunday morning, including three fatalities. The incidents included a 43-year-old woman caught in a hail of bullets from five suspects.

It’s not unusual for the Windy City to experience violent weekends or, well, weekdays too.

Statistics from the Chicago Police Department reveal a troubling tally: at least 266 murders, 1,141 sexual assaults, and thousands of other offenses have been recorded so far this year.

Interestingly, Chicago has been noted as one of the “Noisiest Cities” in America, and ranked poorly on various safety indices.

Despite the challenges, Pritzker protested against the National Guard’s potential deployment to Chicago, and the city’s mayor, Brandon Johnson, recently scored a low 26% approval rating in a survey by the University of Chicago’s Institute of Urban Innovation.

In a sign of solidarity, Johnson signed an executive order condemning Trump’s plans, stating he will ensure that the Chicago Police Department remains under local control. “Crime should not be a partisan issue,” he remarked, emphasizing that federal agents are not welcome to operate under military-like conditions.

Johnson expressed urgency, mentioning a credible report about a possible federal military presence in the coming days: “We must take dramatic action to protect our city from federal overreach.”

The White House dismissed Johnson’s order as just a publicity stunt. A spokesperson remarked that if Democrats focused on resolving crime in their own cities rather than criticizing Trump, their communities would be safer.
