Trump proposes that minor disputes with spouses shouldn’t be included in Washington DC’s crime statistics

Trump suggests 'a little fight with the wife' shouldn't count in DC crime stats

Trump’s Remarks on Crime and Domestic Issues

On Monday, President Trump suggested that minor domestic disputes, such as “a little fight with his wife,” shouldn’t be factored into the crime statistics for Washington, D.C., as the city sees a rise in crime discussions.

“Can you believe our capital is labeled the most violent city? But the reality was worse. It’s supposed to be a completely safe zone. Crime has actually decreased by 87%,” he stated.

“And what happens at home? They categorize it as a crime,” he continued. “They’ll go to any lengths to find issues. If a man has a bit of an argument with his wife, they can’t fully charge him now because, ‘This was a crime, right?’ ”

These comments were made during a speech at a meeting of the Religious Freedom Committee. Recently, Trump had called the district a “crime-free zone” and urged Democrat-led cities to collaborate with his administration to tackle local crime rates.

In a post about True Society, he praised the “very popular” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, encouraging other Democrats to embrace federal support like she has.

“Wow! DC Mayor Muriel Bowser was notably adored because she had almost nothing to complain about in D.C., alongside me and my incredible team,” Trump noted in his message.

“Her actions and statements have been constructive, unlike those of leaders like Pritzker, Wes Moore, Newsom, and the ‘Mayor of 5%’, who seem to be justifying violent crimes.”

During a press conference earlier this month, Bowser emphasized the necessity for more police officers in the city, mentioning that federal government support has provided the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) with much-needed assistance. However, she also pointed out that the visible presence of ICE agents and out-of-town National Guard troops is “not working.”

There has been pushback from Democrats and some residents regarding the president’s approach to crime in D.C., which echoes a similar deployment of federal forces in Los Angeles months ago.

Trump, along with members of his administration, hinted at potential federal law enforcement initiatives in cities like Chicago that are run by Democrats. In his remarks, he expressed confusion as to “why Chicago wasn’t asking for help,” coinciding with the Department of Homeland Security’s increased focus on the city and its latest immigration efforts.
